***Aug 15th - Maya would love a rather quiet home with adults who love to walk and play ball. A fenced yard is a must with her for adequate play time, and walks on leash or long line will keep her safe. She can be an only dog, or live with a smaller dog, and she loves cats. She would not suit as a first dog, but in the right home is an easy dog to live with and a very agreeable companion :0) ***

Maya is a sweet, attentive and active girl who needs a home of her own. She is a Catahoula Leopard Dog or a Catahoula mix, and weighs 47 lbs. Maya is about 3 1/2 years old and is spayed.

Maya loves to go for walks and explore smells. She also likes to play with tennis balls and loves to pounce on them as if they were live prey and she amuses herself with them quite nicely if no other occupation is available. She adores the car and gets very excited when we go. Maya is shy with new people and it will take some time for her to bond with her new owners. Always gentle, she loves older children very much but is scared of little ones. While she is not a very needy dog, she does ask for affection and really enjoys having her ears rubbed. She also likes to cuddle up in bed :0)

Maya is house and crate trained - and she prefers her bed to be lined with a nice fluffy comforter she can stay warm in, thank you! :0) Maya is obedient and easily trained; her high food motivation is a definite plus in that area.

Maya gets along with other dogs but does not like it when there are a lot of them: dog parks would not be her forte&#xxxx; She shows a definite preference for our dogs under 30 lbs, so a home with a smaller doggie companion would be ideal. She loves our cats and will sniff and lick whichever one happens to be curled up near us.

Potential future special needs:

Maya seems to have had some sort of soft tissue injury to a back leg that is now basically cured. She may or may not need occasional physio in the future so potential adopters should budget for about $50 per treatment, a couple of times a year, just in case. We think that more regular trotting exercise would probably end up curing her for good (not manageable here with too many foster dogs) or even better, swimming.

More pics of very camera shy Maya can be found in her album - just copy/paste the following link into your browser: More coming as time permits!

MAYA is fostered in the Ottawa-Cornwall area. If you would like more information about her or if you want to apply to adopt her, please email us!!
